That’s Not Cool Wants YOU to Have Your Say About Digital Dating Abuse!
Your cell phone, IM, and online profile are all digital extensions of who you are. When someone you're with pressures or disrespects you in those places, that's not cool.
That's Not Cool provides tools to help you draw your digital line about what is, or is not, okay in your relationships in order to help prevent and end digital dating abuse. Digital dating abuse is when someone repeatedly controls, pressures, or threatens someone they’re seeing or dating through their phone or online.
Did you know?
- Approximately 1 in 3 adolescent girls in the United States is a victim of physical, emotional, or verbal abuse from a dating partner—a figure that far exceeds victimization for other types of violence affecting youth.
- 1 in 4 teens in a relationship have been called names, been harassed, or been put down by their partner through cell phones and texting.
- 1 in 5 teen girls have electronically sent or posted nude or semi-nude photos or videos of themselves. Even more teen girls, 37%, have sent or posted sexually suggestive text, email, or instant messages.
- More than half of teen girls (51%) say pressure from a guy is a reason girls send sexy messages or images, and 18% of teen boys say pressure from a girl is a reason.
Now is your chance to start talking back about pressure and control in your relationships! Check out this new video from That’s Not Cool and create your own speaking avatar video that lets the world know...constant messages from your boyfriend or girlfriend: Cool or not cool?
