Teen Mom 2: Breaking Point
Last night’s Teen Mom back-to-back episodes were a great way to spend a Tuesday night. Two new cars, a new townhouse and some long-awaited test results all seem like a step in the right direction for the teen moms. But we also know by now that the life of a teen mother is a roller coaster, with constant ups and downs and all they can do is try their best to hold on for the ride.
Kailyn has been struggling to stay afloat and support herself and Isaac since she moved out of her mom’s house. But after totaling her car and not having enough money to buy a new one, Kailyn realizes she’s going to have to ask Jo for help. She’s never asked him for help before but without parents to turn to and a kid to take care of Kailyn knows she doesn’t have another choice. What do you think Jo is going to say when he realizes she’s filed for child support? Would you turn to your parents if you needed help financially? What would you do if you couldn’t ask a parent or guardian for help? Why do you think Kailyn waited this long to ask for child support from Jo?
Chelsea’s father is still helping her financially but she also knows that if she ever wants to be fully independent, she’s going to have to start to take some responsibility for her expenses. We were so happy to see her volunteering to help pay for her new apartment and we’re excited to see where she’s going to get a part-time job. Do you think it will be easy for her to find a position that will accommodate both the facts that she doesn’t have a high school diploma and that she has a young daughter to take care of? Chelsea relies on Adam to help her move into her new townhouse and he once again proves to be unreliable. Did you see that coming? Do you think Chelsea will ever learn to stop depending on Adam?
It almost looked like Jenelle and Kieffer were finally in a good place: sober, out of trouble, and spending time at home with Jace. Except—whoops—Kieffer finds out that Jenelle hung out with her ex, Roy, while Kieffer was in jail and now Roy has been texting Jenelle. Kieffer wants to break up; he just can’t trust her. But Jenelle is not so quick to let him go, even getting her hand slammed in the car door in the process. What did you think of their fight? Do you think they’ll ever be able to be together and civil, at the same time? Jenelle also really drops the parenting ball when she can’t pull herself together to watch Jace while her mom runs an errand. Was that acceptable? If you were Jenelle’s friend what would you say to her?
At least Leah and Corey received good news about Ali. Corey’s dad is right; unfortunately they’ve been forced to deal with a situation that’s incredibly hard for any parent, let alone teen parents. They’ve tried to remain positive throughout the entire genetic testing process but you can tell it’s taking a toll on both Corey and Leah and adding unnecessary stress to an already stressful situation: teen parents raising twins. Do you think you could handle what they’re going through? There was not a dry eye around when Leah got the call that Ali’s test results came back normal. And she even stood up on her own! Maybe things are starting to look up for Corey and Leah!
What did you think of tonight’s double episodes? We know we can’t wait ‘til next week!
